Search City

🔆 It’s Feature Friday!

By September 18, 2020September 24th, 2020No Comments

TGIF, because that means there are new features on Search City!

If you’ve been reading this blog, or have been to our home page recently, you’ll recall that Search City is built on three core pillars: StructureAccountability, and Motivation.

Based on feedback I received, it was clear that although Structure was present and accounted for, people felt the platform could do more to help them stay accountable to their goals and motivated in their search.

So this week’s new features are all about Accountability and Motivation.

👍 Social reactions

Want to show your support, but aren’t sure what to say? Why not give them a “like”?

It’s an easy way to let others know you’re encouraging them in their job search.

When you’ve liked a post, the like button will turn blue. The same thing will happen to the comment button if you’ve commented on a post.

The little numbers next to the comment and like buttons show how many people have commented and liked that post.

Last week I introduced Goal events, which are created when you reach the weekly goal you set on the Dashboard page.

This week I’m pleased to announce the new Milestone events. These are created when you:

  • apply to your first job,
  • book your first interview,
  • receive your first job offer,
  • and, of course, accept a job!

Also, previously Goals were only visible to you on your My Activity page. But why hide your achievement?

Now, Goals and Milestones are automatically shared on the Community page so other people can celebrate what you’ve done.

✉️ Notifications

I know it’s easy to sign up for a platform like Search City with the best of intentions, and then…forget all about it.

Using a new tool is like starting a new habit: it takes time and consistency.

To help you stay accountable and motivated, I’ve launched email notifications!

Here’s the schedule:

  1. On Mondays, a reminder to ask for updates on jobs that have had the same status for over two weeks.
  2. On Wednesdays, a reminder to apply to some jobs if you haven’t applied to anything in the past five days.
  3. On Fridays, an alert if people have commented on your posts this week.
  4. On Saturdays, a summary of your accomplishments for the week.

You’ll only receive these emails if there is something to report.

And, of course, you can turn these notifications on or off by going to the new Notifications tab on the Settings page.
